As a schoolboy, Omar’s home life had become very turbulent when he was referred to his local EYH charity - The Rock Trust. At the time, he was living with his mum, whose mental health had deteriorated, and her new boyfriend, who Omar clashed with.
With the support of the Rock Trust, Omar was supported into temporary accommodation in Bingham. Omar moved with very little, so was referred to the local foodbank and was given basic toiletries. But the main problem was that Omar no longer had access to a computer for his schoolwork. He had been using his phone or asking his teachers for paper copies, but it became apparent his schoolwork had begun to suffer.
Through our Employability Fund, Omar was able to apply for an Employability Bursary to cover the cost of his own laptop. This alongside a bursary to cover the cost of his bus pass, enabled Omar to continue his education.
Since then, Omar has been able to excel at his schoolwork, and has even improved his relationship with his mum, who cooks him dinner after school a few days a week.
We want to wish Omar the very best of luck completing his education and can’t wait to see what he does next!
The Employability Bursary is kindly supported by Eversheds Sutherland. Read more about it here.
