Before being made homeless, Eleanor was living with her father and is his carer, but when his health deteriorated, he needed to move into a bungalow, which was unsuitable for Eleanor and her daughter to live in.
Eleanor started to sofa surf with her daughter between various addresses. This was a very difficult and unsettling time for them both.
Through the Housing Fund, Eleanor was able to move into secure and safe accommodation. The scheme provided her with the move-in costs that would have otherwise held her back.
When Eleanor’s resettlement worker visited her once she was all moved in, she said:
"Eleanor had made fantastic progress and had a lovely little home for her and her daughter, she had decorated her living room and wall papered herself for the very first time & had done such a good job. She had added lovely little homely touches to the flat and it was very warm & welcoming…I can tell Eleanor and her daughter are both settled & happy in their first home."
Eleanor says the scheme helped turn her life around:
“I don’t know what I would have done without this scheme - I dread to think where me and my daughter could be”.
